Paperback Book

It was 1846 and time for America to expand its reach to the Pacific shores as it flexed its muscle in a show of protecting its migrating citizens. One thing stood in the way; Mexico. “Manifest Destiny” would play out in the two-year struggle. Neighbors would fight to create a new border, north from south, along the Rio Grande, and west through untamed territories to become known as New Mexico and Arizona, finally reaching the coast of California.

This was a time of pioneers leaving the confines of Kansas and Missouri to explore the Oregon and California trails. Settlers, treasure seekers, and the greatest mass religious exodus in American history, the Mormons; all would cross untamed lands filled with peril, to settle in territory which would either stay with Mexico or become part of the United States.

It was a time when the Golden Age of the gentleman and ladies of southern plantations was soon to slip into nothing more than a memory, as talk of southern state secession inflamed passions. Strangely, the 1846-1848 war with Mexico would also become the factory giving junior military officers the experience in battle to produce the Generals opposing one another in the coming Civil War.

The Underground Railroad of abolitionists, questions of state’s rights, along with American empire building, all mixed together creating tensions which would only end with the Civil War of 1861-1865.

Read from the American players in a drama forging a developing nation into an east to west coast country, in PowerThink Publishing’s Mexican War and Slavery, Volume 7.

Reviews:

“This is pure history, without all the filters of contemporary interpretation. These books will be a welcome addition to the library of anyone who wants to better understand where America as come from--and where we should be now.”
-Jay A. Parry, author, The Real George Washington

My Father W. Cleon Skousen, author of The Five Thousand Year Leap, would call this must-have collection of original source documents nothing short of pure gold of the rarest kind. This resource would have spared him decades of clawing through untold stacks and volumes of materials during his research and writing years. He would have treasured these books for that very purpose, and joins me in highly recommending these volumes to scholars and casual readers alike; anyone looking for accurate answers to difficult questions about America, freedom, and our era of unprecedented prosperity.
-Paul Skousen, author, speaker, CIA analyst, and Reagan White House intelligence officer
